Any way to open partially downloaded file in ubantu

To allow each separate split to be partially readable, you should at least clone the dictionary, the directory and other metadata to each file - giving a huge overhead. In another post, I asked to add to each split file a minimum header, which allows my particular request padding to change checksum and also to check the checksum per-split, in case you don't have the par2 files to check them.

I tried to compress togheter those files: an original file, in. So 7zip managed to effectivily recognize the backup, the recompression and the padding, it was able to reference those three files to the original. Winrar instead just cutted away the padding, because the files are NOT related to each other, it is NOT able to do a smart move as 7zip did,.

This experiment shows that, for example, if you have multiple timed backups of a file, and you compress them, 7zip is able to relate each backup to the other and obtain a much greater compression tha winrar does. Hmm, I had a look on par2… I don't know if it's so applicable when you need to recompress everything. What about something like that:. You have a compressed file of some sort.

Additional to that file you create some sort of "repair-file", with some parity info. So in the event of some blocks of the compressed file go bad you can repair them?

Don't know if that's possible with par2. You have your original files, for example a split 7z archive, and they are without errors. You start a par2 tool, like multipar, and you create par2 parity files.

You can choose block dimension - smaller blocks means you'll be able to repair more non-consecutive errors, but it takes longer to create par2 files and to repair. For example, whenever i make a 7zip splitted archive, I tell my par2 program to divide original files in blocks total. This way, I can repair damaged files or rebuild missing ones.

Actually, if 7zip could integrate at least. Does this mean that it would be possible to extract files from each split? Very interesting discussion here. I hope 7z focus mainly on private archiving. Until today, I prefer ZIP-compression, because it is fast and you can extract one file of a big Backup without problems.

But ZIP misses a good encryption which I like to protect my data on external backup drives. Hi blumele - don't know if you are still active on this topic but: you seem to have used some crappy video codecs.

It's unclear to me why the archivers do such a good job on the 80 GB file. Judging by your files I guess there is some huge space storage saving possibility when you re-encode your videos. I guess the MJPG is the most promising one.

The reason why the archivers differs so little is that your video files seem to be very 'vunerable' to Huffmann encoding. Nothing else. Since all of the archivers use Huffmann at some stage the files are very similar sized - whereas the other stages which are truly remarkable in 7zip for instance cannot perform well due to the data you are trying to compress. So please consider this: - re-encode the bloated videos to a better codec - you will see that the videos now are so small that you don't really need to compress them any further - just compress the 5 GB 'good compressible stuff' - and you are done.

Thanks Iralia for your response and explanations! I'm sorry to not focus on the thread title. Here my response:. I just prefer to save and not delete the original Digicam-Video-Files. And here we can go back to topic and discussing on the fast "partial extraction of files" from splited archives, that will be really interesting in backup situations with huge file amounts in big sized compressed files.

The two quote ment to highlight that when it comes to feature requests, one should provide reasons pro feature, but it is often forgotten that it would be valuable to admit why the developer isn't already implemented this save he never ever thought of it. Thanks to ipavlov this is already explained!

There are situations in life where there are no backups, or all are damaged. Typical example is how the internet vanishes almost faster than it is created. I meant how to open partially downloaded file? It mostly contains metadata for Chrome to be able to restart the download. In many cases,We can just remove. But by this method, we cannot access the file while it is downloading.
